Talk about pace before the itinerary
For one person, a weekend means getting up early and walking. For another, it means a slow breakfast. Neither is wrong. Problems arise when both expectations go unspoken.
Each name one thing you want to do and one you want to avoid. This is a more useful starting point than a packed schedule made without discussion.
Sharing time does not mean wanting the same thing every minute.
Leave some space unnamed
A free afternoon is not a gap that needs fixing. It can become a walk, a conversation or some time apart. Skipping a stop can also be a shared choice.
If your interests differ, do separate activities and meet up afterwards. Travelling together does not mean spending every moment side by side.
Practical matters deserve clear words
Before leaving, discuss timing, personal space, shared expenses and what happens if someone wants to change plans. You do not need a complicated agreement: you need to avoid mistaking assumptions for promises.
A weekend is not necessarily measured by the number of places visited. Its best memory may be a longer-than-expected breakfast or a road chosen without rushing. Leave room for that too.
