Describe the occasion
Explain the type of event, how long it lasts and what you would like from the company: conversation, sharing dinner or attending a ceremony together. Mention the level of formality and check whether your invitation allows a guest.
If there are named tickets, registration or entry restrictions, check the arrangements with the organiser. A photograph in formalwear does not establish familiarity with that setting: ask how the professional prefers to prepare.
The best company leaves room for your personality.
Keep introductions simple
Agree how to introduce each other without inventing elaborate stories. You can say, “He is accompanying me this evening.” You do not need to explain private details or claim qualifications, roles or relationships that do not exist.
Agree on photographs and social media posts too. Agreeing to attend an event is not the same as agreeing to appear in a public photograph. You can ask for discretion beforehand in ordinary language.
Leave some room in the schedule
Allow time for entry, the cloakroom, delays and returning home. If the event may run late, ask how extra time and its cost would be handled. Knowing this beforehand lets you enjoy the evening without negotiating every change as it happens.
